What is comprehensive car insurance? Why it’s better than third party car insurance?
Comprehensive insurance (also known as “other than collision” in some states) covers damage to your car caused by events that are out of your control. It covers things like theft, vandalism, glass and windshield damage, fire, accidents with animals, weather/acts of nature, etc. Comprehensive is an optional coverage but includes coverage for third party damages.
Whereas, Third-party car insurance offers cover against any legal liability to a third party caused when you are at fault. It covers any damage or injury caused by the insured, to another person or property. A third-party liability cover is made mandatory in India under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Since both own damages and third party damages are covered, its advisable to have a comprehensive insurance for your car.
