Should i be filling Form 12BB even if I have no tax deductions to seek?
Form 12BB is applicable from 1st June 2016 for all salaried taxpayers to claim tax deductions. Form 12BB is mandatory only for claiming tax deductions and not for filling tax returns.
So if you are seeking no deductions like HRA, LTA or home loan interest repayment you can file your ITR without Form 12BB.
Form 12BB is a form that you need to fill to claim tax deductions for a financial year. From 1st June 2016, it is mandatory for all salaried employees to submit Form 12BB to their employees to claim tax benefits. This is the form you will use to declare your investments that will give you tax deductions including the ones that come under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. This will pertain to the financial year in which you make those investments. As you know, you will have to provide documentary evidence of these investments declared in the form by the end of the financial year.
