What is the new health insurance portal announced by the government? Is it functional yet or just an announcement?

#2

The IRDAI promoted Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) has come up with a portal known as the Registry of Hospitals in Network of Insurer or Rohini. The portal is functional and available at https://rohini.iib.gov.in. The treatment facilities on offer, the cost of treatment and cost of claims for each hospital is also provided on the portal. So you can compare health insurance details of various plans and make a call on which one to opt for. The portal currently has a database of 35,000 hospitals with more hospitals being added over time.

I recently saw a newspaper advertisement form an insurance company offering health plan without a medical. Are such plans worth considering?

#4

Insurance policies that do not come with a pre approved medical checkup have a higher premium term compared to policies with a pre approved medical. This is because insurance companies have to safeguard themselves against the higher risk of claims. So you do not get any monetary benefit by avoiding a pre policy medical checkup and instead you end up paying a higher premium. Insurance companies are able to save costs of medical examination for each policyholder but you will need to furnish a self declaration on your medical condition.

Hi Mahesh,

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has set up the National Health Portal in pursuance to the decisions of the National Knowledge Commission, to provide healthcare related information to the citizens of India and to serve as a single point of access for consolidated health information. Hi Reba,

They are many plans that don’t need medical check-up. They are worth considering. One such plan is the Star Health Senior Citizen Red Carpet plan.

This is one of the best Health Insurance plans and aims at securing the sunset years of the elderly. The age group for this plan is 60 to 75 years, with benefits like a cover for pre-existing diseases from the second year onwards, higher sum insured of up to Rs. 10 lakhs and the option to get a guaranteed lifetime renewal. All this, without the need to undergo any pre-insurance medical test.
